Canada Didn’t Burn to the Ground Last Night

Congratulations, Canada.  You won the hockey gold medal last night in an overtime shootout despite having BY FAR the most talented team in the tournament AND the home-crowd advantage (and even home ice for your goalie, Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo).  How did you ever overcome those odds to barely defeat the US team that was ranked 5th before the games started and had the youngest roster in the whole tournament?

Seriously, though, Canada deserved to win.  Why?  Because they give a shit about hockey and their country would have collapsed in to complete anarchy if they didn’t win.  So, to celebrate their win, here is a picture of their national treasure, Sidney Crosby (the second-best hockey player in the world) rejoicing in his game-winning goal as only he, and other people who resemble donkeys, can.  Oh, Canada.

I thank God,Blessed Brother Andre,St. Joseph,St.Anthony, St.Michael for answering my prayer for the team.
As I prayed for the team ,I also prayed that help would be sent for all the people in need…health, money, jobs, peace etc.
Congratulations to all the Olympic Athletes.

  • Claudette, that was quite a ramble. But I believe I can summarize your thoughts:
    1) You like Canada’s victory. 2) You prayed for Canada to win. 3) Only after asking god to pause his busy schedule of running the universe in order to grant your team victory in a meaningless game, you then threw in as an aside that you hoped he would also help out people who are in desperate need.
Does that just about sum it up?

God doesn’t give a fuck about hockey. I’m almost positive that the Devil was pulling for Russia though.

  • I am Canadian but I couldn’t concentrate and actually watch the Final from start to finish and certainly not the OT. Too gut wrenching these USA matchups (and I’m no dopey typical anti-American hater). I just prefer Canada to play any other nation in Finals as I could just imagine Americans going crazy for all of about 4 days and then forgetting about it, if they won.

After all, the World Cup win in ‘96 was noticed by maybe at best a million people in a nation of 300 times that.

What can I say? I just wish hockey actually meant something to people beyond the pockets in Minnesota, Michigan and the Northeast.
