Welcome to the first installment of History Kicks Ass, where we will try to pay homage to the rich history of sports. This week: Urban Shocker. Do I even need to write anything else? Seriously, the guy’s name was Urban Shocker. No, he did not lead an elite anti-gang task force. And no, he is not a member of COBRA bent on “settling the score” with G.I. Joe. He’s a an old baseball pitcher who played for the St. Louis Browns and the New York Yankees from 1916 to 1928. He had four consecutive seasons of 20 wins. He was one of the last to throw the spitball. And, he could kick your ass. Just look at his picture: when he retired I bet he was the epitome of “old man strength”. I like to gaze into his eyes and wonder what his life was like as a major league player. What would have been his Francona-name? Urby or Shocky? Did he have a lot of road beef? I bet he did.

No, it's a cardigan. But thanks for asking.
Kick-ass fact: baseball banned the use of the spitball in 1920, but Urban Shocker was grandfathered in along with cool-name runner up: Burleigh Grimes.
